Subject: Windows MOD player
es anybody use a Windows mod player that works well with the GUS? I am
using WinMOD right now, but it doesn't sound very good. It's very noisy
compared to GUSMOD from DOS.
If there isn't a Windows mod player for the GUS then somebody needs to
write one. It should also play ULT and 669 and FAR files, and include
such features as a play list, VU meters for each channel like GUSMOD has.
Even the minimized icon should have VU meters on it - maybe just left and
right. I'm thinking of writing one myself; but of anyone here plans to
write one, can you let me know so we don't duplicate efforts? As this
would be my first Windows programming project, it'd probably take me a
long time.
Can somebody give me an overview of what Windows calls to use to work
with the GUS on the lowest level that's "proper"? I mean, it's not
politically correct to send stuff directly to the GUS's port address, the
way GUSMOD probably does, right? or is it? Generally Windows has a high-
level way of doing things, like the digital audio driver for instance.
But if Winmod is any indication, that digital audio driver doesn't sound
the best.
